To answer the first prompt, I simply watch TV because it is a form of entertainment. I mainly watch anime, but I do break off and watch shows such as Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. Out of all the movies, shows, and channels I can think of off the top of my head, the only one I hate is Hallmark. For me it feels like every single one of their movies have the same exact format, and nothing bad ever happens. They don't try to convey a theme or evoke emotion.
To answer the second prompt, although many advertisements are sent through TV, TV isn't only an ad shower. As to whether or not TV is an inane use of time, different people prefer different forms of entertainment, but altogether, watching TV is not a waste of time. As I said at the beginning, TV is a form of entertainment, so saying that watching TV is time wasting is similar to saying that reading a book or playing a game is a waste of time.
