I don’t watch much live television, except maybe something like House Hunters if my mom has it on and I happen to be in the room. I usually use streaming services such as Netflix or Disney+ in order to watch shows and movies. I prefer that to live TV, because I feel like the advertisements and commercial breaks are overly long and annoying. I would understand one or two, but seven minutes of advertisement in a thirty minute time slot seems like a little much. The fact that awards shows relating to pop culture such as the Emmys get more recognition than something like the Nobel Prizes shows our society’s interests. We’re more focused on entertainment than we are physics. This isn’t necessarily good or bad, as different people are interested in different things, and that’s okay. But, I do believe that just because something typically has more people interested in it than something else doesn’t mean that the ‘something else’ shouldn’t see the light of day.
