Assignment 9 - Palmer Lee
I've been thinking about this a lot recently since there's an upcoming election. Basic human rights shouldn't be political. Whether or not people of color should be brutalized by the police for the smallest of things shouldn't be political. Whether or not women should be able to control what they do with their own bodies shouldn't be political. The rights of LGBT+ people to marry the person who they love shouldn't be political. But they are. I don't have any idea as to why this is - except for possibly the idea that dozens and dozens of unrelated topics shouldn't be placed randomly into two color coded options, but that's a bit of a different topic. I'm not saying that every conservative is racist or homophobic, and I'm not saying every liberal is morally just. I'm just trying to say that everyone should be able to do what they want with their own life without the fear of being discriminated against.
